The Story
DIA released some AAWSAP records, but the larger inventory and thousands of additional pages remain unseen.
The documented core is narrower than the headline. DIA received contract deliverables and has released or identified some of them, including 37 documents totaling 1,473 pages. The reported larger archive rests mainly on statements by program participants, while DIA’s alleged inventory has not itself been published. Missing public pages may reflect incomplete searches, classification, FOIA exemptions, administrative handling, or records not yet processed.
- DIA’s contract called for technical reports in 11 areas, and official records show a 2009 review of program deliverables.
- A FOIA response located 37 documents totaling 1,473 pages, with portions withheld under statutory and privacy exemptions.
- The reported inventory is not the same as public release: no inventory, letter, or additional pages had been published in the cited account.
Deeper Insight
AAWSAP’s public record may be only the visible edge of a much larger archive held in fragmented government custody.
The deeper reading is that AAWSAP was a substantial intelligence-backed research and data effort whose public footprint may represent only a fraction of what contractors delivered. Participants describe 8,000–10,000 pages, including databases, case files, biological-effects research, and more than 100 detailed reports. The pattern points to fragmented custody and institutional reluctance or difficulty, but the missing archive is still evidenced primarily by participant testimony and partial document trails.
- Lacatski described AAWSAP as producing more than 100 detailed reports and a large UFO data warehouse during its 27-month existence.
- Bigelow and Kelleher described an overall archive of roughly 8,000–10,000 pages, with about 5,000–6,000 pages still unreleased.
- Released and independently documented material includes contractor databases and additional AAWSAP documents beyond those listed in a published appendix.
