Will the UK's 'highly effective' age checks force teens to scan IDs and expose biometric data?Source

Ofcom has four workable age checks, but the UK still has to decide how much private data protection should cost.
Ofcom’s report treats age assurance as a technical route to enforcing a proposed under-16 social-media restriction. The practical menu is narrow at the 16 threshold: photo ID, digital identity, banking checks and facial age estimation. The ordinary institutional reading is that a combination of methods can protect children, but implementation still has to address accessibility, privacy, interoperability and circumvention.
Ofcom, the UK regulator, says the best age checks need ID or face scans. Child safety could make anonymity a privilege.
A 16-year-old logging into a social app may need a passport, bank detail, or face scan. Ofcom's four strongest methods push sensitive data through fragmented commercial systems, while easier checks can be bypassed. Once proving your age becomes the price of entry, the anonymous internet starts to look like a members-only room.
