Simulation hypothesis tech
Image: serious-science.org
The strongest academic treatment separates logical possibility from evidence. The hypothesis can be formulated coherently, and some formal results show that self-simulation is mathematically possible. But computational-resource arguments challenge large-scale physical simulation, while philosophical analyses warn that technological metaphors do not resolve foundational questions about reality.
Supporters treat the hypothesis as more than a catchy metaphor. They use Bostrom’s probabilistic argument, the trajectory of increasingly capable virtual worlds, and the possibility that consciousness and physical law are computationally instantiated. This view claims simulation status would not automatically make experience unreal, though it remains unable to demonstrate the hypothesis.

The Simulation Argument FAQ
## The Simulation Argument FAQ (2025) Nick Bostrom version 2.0 [simulation-argument.com] 1. What is the simulation argument? 2. Do you really believe that we are in a computer simulation? 3. Is the simulation argument a variant of Descartes’ daemon or the brain-in-a-vat argument? 4. If we are in a s

On testing the simulation theory
On testing the simulation theory Tom Campbell∗, Houman Owhadi†, Joe Sauvageau‡, David Watkinson§ June 8, 2017 Abstract Can the theory that reality is a simulation be tested? We investigate this ques tion based on the assumption that if the system performing the simulation is finite (i.e. has limited
