Public maps exposed US base routines, but the strikes also drew on satellite imagery and other intelligence; the exact share is unknown.
Public maps, photos, videos, and commercial imagery made US facilities and routines easier to study. That exposure mattered, but the sources do not show that Google Maps labels or geotagged photos directly determined particular strikes. Iran also had other intelligence, so the strongest conclusion is improved targeting opportunity rather than a proven causal chain.

Camp Buehring's map pins turned gyms and headquarters into clues. The battlefield now begins where public life leaves a trail.
Google Maps marked Camp Buehring's “Main HQ,” gym, dining areas and a DPW Self-Help Center, with photos and reviews attached. Bellingcat found several of those sites later damaged in Iranian strikes, while satellite imagery and other intelligence also played a role. The danger is the pipeline: ordinary posts can become target-ready knowledge.
