The universe shows life-like processes, but no accepted test has shown that the cosmos itself is alive.
The universe contains processes that can be described with biological or thermodynamic language, but resemblance is not the same as organism-level life. Scientific definitions are tools for identifying life and biosignatures, and current proposals do not demonstrate that the cosmos metabolizes, reproduces, learns, or maintains itself as one living system.
Black holes, bubble universes, consciousness. The cosmos may rhyme with life without being alive.
A black hole spawning a new universe sounds less like physics than biology. Cosmological natural selection, eternal inflation, and cosmopsychism stretch that comparison further. They open a real philosophical possibility, not evidence that the universe metabolizes, reproduces, or thinks. The useful power is in testing what we mean by life.
