Evidence strength: The 1995 footage is overwhelmingly regarded as a staged hoax: its production was traced to London, its alien prop was identified, and Ray Santilli later admitted the film was fake. The remaining dissent is Santilli’s claim that it recreated genuine footage he had seen but lost.

The Alien Autopsy film was a 17-minute, grainy black-and-white pseudo-documentary released in 1995 by Ray Santilli, presented as secret U.S. military footage of an extraterrestrial recovered after the 1947 Roswell incident. It became a global television sensation, but the autopsy was staged in London; Santilli later admitted the film was fake, while maintaining that it was inspired by lost genuine footage. A separate 2006 British comedy dramatized the affair.

Lens adapted to this topic: Santilli’s lost-footage claim
The dissent does not generally require accepting the released film as authentic. It rests on Santilli’s narrower claim that he had seen genuine autopsy footage, that the original deteriorated or was lost, and that the 1995 production reconstructed it. The available sources document this claim but do not establish the existence of the alleged original.
