Laser-mesh detection could be the overlooked method for finding tiny, radar‑stealth aerial objects.
Operationally, the most established pattern is layered sensing: radar provides detection and tracking, while visible or infrared cameras support confirmation and classification. Passive RF sensing can add information when an object transmits. Research increasingly focuses on computer-vision models that preserve fine detail and operate in real time, but performance remains sensitive to clutter, lighting, weather, range, and target size.
Radar misses small, low, quiet objects. A mesh of laser beams catches anything that breaks it, no transmitter required.
Most sky watching still assumes the target will show up on radar or broadcast a signal. Small, stealthy objects do neither. So engineers propose a net of laser beams that flags whatever breaks it, and arrays of infrared cameras that scan the entire sky for heat. They are early designs, built for exactly the things that don't want to be found.
