Dust storms do more than obscure Mars: they heat the atmosphere, loft material, and provide particles on which water and carbon-dioxide clouds can form. During major storms, convection and circulation can move moisture upward, shifting water-ice clouds to unusually high altitudes and potentially accelerating water loss to space.

Lens adapted to this topic: Where the storm-cloud picture remains unsettled
A more cautious reading emphasizes that “dust storms make clouds” is not a single mechanism. Dust can seed clouds, heat and destabilize the atmosphere, reshape circulation, and either enhance or redistribute cloud formation. Regional storms, seasonal conditions, particle sizes, and altitude all matter; current models still cannot reproduce storm activity and its feedbacks self-consistently.
