The clearest proof would be a living or recently deceased specimen, preserved and independently examined so its anatomy and DNA establish a previously unknown primate. Tracks, hair, scat, and body impressions can motivate investigation, but existing samples have not produced a confirmed Bigfoot identity; many have matched known animals or remain vulnerable to hoax and contamination.

Supporters argue that physical evidence already forms a cumulative case: recurring large footprints, dermal-ridge patterns, body impressions, hairs, scat, and environmental damage. They contend that the absence of remains is not decisive for a rare, long-lived animal. Their proposed threshold is not one dramatic photograph, but independently documented evidence that repeatedly excludes known species and withstands attempts to reproduce or fake it.
