The family’s choking episodes fit sleep paralysis; stress, sleep disruption, and shared interpretation offer stronger explanations than a ritual site.
The episodes described by the family fit recognized features of sleep paralysis: awareness or partial awareness, temporary immobility, choking sensations, sensed presence, and vivid imagery. Familial susceptibility, stress, trauma, and disrupted sleep are more grounded explanations than a supernatural effect from a place. The ritual-site memory may still shape the mother’s interpretation and the imagery surrounding her episodes.
The ritual site may not have caused the paralysis. It gave one family’s fear a place to live, and a shape to return in.
The mother fell at an alleged ritual site while pregnant, and years later both relatives report waking trapped in their bodies, choking or seeing an attacker. Those episodes fit sleep paralysis, while family memory and belief can shape the terror around them. One frightening place became a map for experiences the family still cannot neatly contain.
