AlUla widens LaserSETI’s watch across Asia; it adds coverage, not evidence that another civilization has been found.
AlUla adds a fifth observing site and the network’s first Asian vantage point. Its two stations continuously scan broad sky areas, improving the chance of catching short-lived flashes that targeted telescopes can miss. The contribution is expanded observing coverage, not a discovery: the stations have reported no extraterrestrial signal.
AlUla makes LaserSETI’s silence more useful: five sites make a missed flash harder to blame on one horizon.
Two stations in the Arabian desert now sweep wide patches of sky, joining four other LaserSETI sites. That matters because a rare flash can vanish behind one location’s clouds, terrain or horizon. AlUla has found no alien signal, but it gives the public a sharper answer when researchers say they saw nothing.

Saudi Arabia Joins the Search for Alien Civilizations
Universe Today is 100% AD-FREE thanks to our patrons. Here's how we do it * Saudi Arabia has installed a pair of LaserSETI detectors in a region in a region named AlUla Manara, a site being established as the kingdom's first major astronomical observatory. They're part of a network of optical detectors will scan the heavens for laser signals from alien technological civilizations. Image Credit: La
