What do the Sumerian tablets actually say about the Anunnaki?Source

The Anunnaki are gods in Mesopotamian stories; the tablets do not describe space travelers.
The tablets place the Anunna inside Mesopotamian religion: a variable group of high-ranking gods whose roles include deciding fates, judging trespassers, overseeing divine work, and appearing in creation stories. The texts are mythic compositions with differing contexts and memberships. Nothing in the cited corpus establishes spaceships, a home planet, gold mining, or extraterrestrial genetic engineering.
The Anunnaki story endures because ancient gods still offer a language for power, origins, and knowledge beyond human control.
Clay tablets preserve a world in which divine authority organizes labor, hierarchy, birth, punishment, and human purpose. That older pattern still gives the Anunnaki power: modern readers can turn a difficult religious archive into a story about hidden teachers and lost knowledge. The evidence supports a rich mythology; deciding whether it encodes history remains an interpretive leap.

What do the Sumerian tablets actually say about the Anunnaki?
Most of what people "know" about the Anunnaki comes from Zecharia Sitchin, not the tablets themselves. I went back to the actual Sumerian texts to separate what's written from what's been added since. Some of it is stranger than the theories. Curious what you all think: where do you draw the line between myth and history here?
