Mummy wine was a variable medicine: powdered remains or extracts entered liquids, but the recipe changed with place, period, and supply.
The safest reconstruction treats mummy wine as one form of a wider medicinal trade. Apothecaries reduced mummy material to powder or extract and administered it in liquids, while the substance itself could contain corpse tissue, embalming aromatics, or substitutes. The evidence does not support a single universal ingredient list.
Apothecaries sold Mumia vera, powdered mummy in wine, as medicine. The recipe shifted, but the ancient authority stayed.
A medieval cup of mummy wine might contain corpse tissue, myrrh, aloe, pitch, or a substitute. Mumia was less a fixed recipe than a trade label that crossed cultures while its contents changed. That is the sharp lesson: people were not only buying a substance, but the authority attached to its name.
