Standing magnetopause waves can reshape the boundary and transport energy, but the evidence does not show that they independently punch solar-wind plasma through it. Their stronger-established role is coupling: they can seed Kelvin–Helmholtz activity, drive magnetospheric waves, and interact with other entry processes such as reconnection.

A stronger interpretation treats standing waves as an overlooked gateway rather than a passive ripple. Because they can remain locally trapped, redistribute Poynting flux, and feed flank instabilities, they may help organize the boundary conditions that let solar-wind energy—and, through coupled processes, plasma—penetrate the magnetosphere. The available sources support this mechanism as plausible, not as an isolated breach demonstrated by observation.
