The Story
Children may report more uncanny experiences, but research has not shown that a natural psi ability fades with age.
Childhood memories can feel unusually vivid, and young children are more open to supernatural interpretations of ambiguous events. The direct psi evidence is much thinner: developmental research summarized in the supplied material finds no clear age relationship, while the one reported child advantage drew statistical criticism. The ordinary reading therefore treats fading experiences as an open psychological and evidential question, not an established loss of ability.
- A developmental review reports no prominent age correlation in psi experiments and says the limited child-advantage finding faced statistical criticism.
- Children aged four to thirteen were more likely than adults to interpret a magic trick supernaturally and accept appearances at face value.
- The originating account establishes a remembered pattern of childhood experiences, not their paranormal cause.

Deeper Insight
If childhood openness is a doorway to psi, growing up may teach people to stop noticing what once felt immediate.
The deeper possibility is that childhood leaves less room between perception, imagination, and intuition, while schooling and analytical habits narrow what people notice or trust. Parapsychological writers connect this openness to relaxed states and argue that abilities may be suppressed rather than destroyed. That reading remains a hypothesis, but it gives the childhood pattern a coherent meaning: growing up may change attention before it changes capacity.
- Parapsychological accounts propose that children may lose access to innate psi through maturation, education, or increasing analytical control.
- A Japanese overview notes the hypothesis that dominant logical and analytical thinking may inhibit psi expression, while emphasizing the lack of a clear age correlation.
- A 2024 psi-research analysis reports that only remote-viewing studies showed a small statistically significant decline in effect size over time, not a general decline across five research areas.
