Did Ice Age artists at Mizyn deliberately use mammoth ivory growth patterns in their Venus figurines' designs?Source

The study’s central interpretation is that Mizyn carvers carefully observed natural growth patterns in mammoth ivory and incorporated them into engraved geometric designs. Microscopy and 3D analysis across 18 figurines provide the evidential basis for treating the relationship as intentional design rather than coincidence.
The same observations support a more cautious reading: visible correspondences demonstrate that natural ivory structure influenced the designs, but they do not independently reveal the carvers’ intentions, symbolism, or whether every matching line was consciously selected. The evidence is strongest for material engagement, weaker for reconstructing mental states.
