Precision-clock research treats nuclear clocks as a powerful proposed test of physics beyond the Standard Model, not as an established dark-matter detector. The case rests on calculable sensitivity enhancements, especially in thorium-229, and on comparing dissimilar clocks across time and space to search for oscillatory or transient signals.
The strongest outsider-to-mainstream emphasis is that dark matter may couple chiefly to the nuclear or strong-interaction sector, where conventional optical clocks have weaker reach. Nuclear and molecular comparisons could therefore reveal signals missed by atomic systems, although the proposal remains model-dependent and sensitivity calculations do not constitute a detection.
