Meta’s system silenced No Kings at a crucial moment, but the public record shows an automated error—not a proven midterm plot.
A platform-security failure struck at the worst possible time. Meta says automated protections reacted to intense activity and rapid Claude requests, then acknowledged the enforcement was wrong and restored access. The timing created real disruption, but the available reporting does not establish that Zuckerberg or Meta intentionally targeted No Kings to influence the midterms.
When one company controls the megaphone, an “error” can still shape who gets heard before voters act.
A single off switch went dark while thousands of people were turning out voters. Meta’s history of political alignment and its changing explanations make concentrated platform power the deeper issue: whoever controls the megaphone can shape participation without leaving a clear fingerprint. That would be a dangerous path toward private election influence; organizers still hold power by building channels they do not rent from one company.
