What do the Library and Archives Canada UFO files reveal about RCMP and DND investigations into sightings?Source

Canada investigated unusual sightings, but the files show fragmented fact-finding rather than proof of extraterrestrial craft.
The files show a Cold War-era system that treated unusual sightings first as possible security matters, then as scientific or administrative problems. DND and the RCMP collected reports and investigated selected cases, but the broader record was passive, fragmented, and short on resources. Official attention demonstrates monitoring, not confirmation of extraterrestrial craft.
Canada kept the sightings, but its fragmented system kept the larger question from acquiring an owner.
A sighting could move from a citizen’s testimony to an RCMP report, a defence file, or a scientific record, yet no single authority owned the whole mystery. That structure preserved thousands of observations while preventing a sustained answer. The deeper lesson is institutional: governments were willing to collect uncertainty, but not willing to build a lasting public investigation around it.
