DT-109 repaired fatty liver disease in animals; whether it can do the same safely in people remains untested.
DT-109 is a promising preclinical treatment, not yet a proven human therapy. The animal findings fit a growing understanding of the gut–liver connection, but human treatment requires clinical testing for efficacy, safety, appropriate dosing, and meaningful long-term outcomes. Existing reviews show that gut-targeted approaches have biological promise without proving that this particular compound reverses human disease.
DT-109 points to a larger shift: healing the gut may help interrupt the chain linking metabolism, inflammation, and liver damage.
The deeper signal is that liver damage may be driven partly by a failing gut barrier, not only by fat stored in liver cells. DT-109 joins a wider pattern: microbial molecules, probiotics, and other gut-directed interventions have improved liver-related measures in preclinical or selected human studies. That pattern strengthens the mechanism, but it does not turn an animal result into a human cure.
