Weighing mainstream and alternative accounts…

Can human intention directly alter external physical systems at a distance, beyond attention-driven bodily effects?
The mainstream scientific assessment is cautious or skeptical: intention may influence physical events through ordinary actions, attention, or physiological pathways, but evidence for direct mental influence on external matter remains insufficient. Critics argue that unusual findings may reflect methodological weaknesses, theoretically motivated controls, selective reporting, or non-replication. The strongest conclusion is that the claim remains unestablished rather than disproven.

Pendulums, ice crystals, cancer cells in a dish: labs keep testing whether a focused mind can nudge matter, and keep logging small effects.
At PEAR, an engineering anomalies lab, operators tried to change how a pendulum swung just by wanting it. Others aimed intention at water, at cancer cells, at glowing plasma. The reported effects are small and scattered, easy to argue about. But the experiments keep coming, because if a mind can nudge matter at all, it changes what a mind is.
