Bombadil may read plant condition, but no public test yet shows that it translates plant messages.
Bombadil is best understood as a plant-monitoring model, not a conversational translator. Plants clearly generate electrical signals tied to physiological processes, and machine learning may help classify stress or hydration. But meaningful “messages” require independent tests showing reliable predictions across species, environments, and unseen conditions; those results have not yet been made public.
Plants may not speak in sentences; their hidden electrical state could still become farming’s next vital sign.
A sensor on a stem turns hidden plant activity into a usable stream of data, and that shift matters even without a human-style vocabulary. The deeper possibility is agricultural: growers could respond to stress before leaves show it, while the company gains a new layer of biological infrastructure. But the gap between detecting state and understanding meaning remains the central test.
