Coatings can improve mitochondrial delivery into damaged cells by increasing surface stability, cellular uptake, or tissue targeting. Evidence is strongest in cultured cells and animal models; it does not yet establish that coated mitochondria produce durable, safe clinical benefit in damaged human tissue.

The stronger interpretation is that packaging and surface engineering could overcome the central bottleneck: naked mitochondria are fragile and poorly internalized. Encapsulation or coating may preserve function while increasing delivery, making meaningful rescue plausible—but the evidence still depends on whether transferred organelles remain functional and integrate long enough to repair human tissue.
