ASTRA proved autonomous orbital assembly; it did not prove an autonomous weapons factory.
ASTRA is a meaningful engineering milestone: a simple autonomous system assembled a small reflector structure in orbit. The institutional reading is infrastructure first, large antennas, solar arrays, and optics that cannot fit inside rocket fairings. Nothing in the reported demonstration shows autonomous weapons fabrication, industrial-scale production, or the complete supply chain such a factory would require.

ASTRA built a 1.4-meter reflector without astronauts. The breakthrough is moving construction into orbit, where power can grow unseen.
A robot spent six months joining composite tubes and aluminum joints into a 1.4-meter reflector in orbit. That proves autonomous assembly works, not that orbital factories are here. But it points toward structures launched in pieces and expanded in space, where control of the construction yard could shape the military high ground before the public can see what is being built.
