Are synchronicities evidence of agency?

The naturalistic reading distinguishes the experience of meaningfulness from evidence that an external agent arranged events. Coincidences may seem causal because humans detect patterns and significance, while causal pathways may be hidden, distributed, delayed, social, or technologically mediated. On this view, anecdotes are insufficient to establish agency, and one source explicitly reports no scientific evidence supporting synchronicity.
The alternative interpretation treats synchronicity as potentially more than coincidence: an acausal ordering principle in which inner psychological states and external events become meaningfully aligned. Jungian and related approaches argue that a purely causal framework may not capture the subjective or symbolic dimension of destiny and numinous experience. These views rely chiefly on philosophical theory, interpretation, and reported cases rather than decisive experimental confirmation.
