The Story
Rice’s archive is a valuable record of human experience, but its materials do not yet validate paranormal mechanisms.
Rice has built a serious repository for studying how people record and interpret extraordinary experiences. The archive’s professional preservation, public research access and metadata work support scholarship about testimony, culture and history. They do not, on the evidence provided, establish that the reported paranormal mechanisms are real; major reviews continue to identify experimental shortcomings.
- Rice describes the Center as a library and research repository spanning religion, history, psychology, anthropology, folklore, philosophy, physics, parapsychology and information science.
- The Metadata Project aims to create structured, high-fidelity data from archival narratives while explicitly declining to prove nonhuman visitors or adjudicate interpretations.
- Reviews of prominent psi research found recurring flaws in randomization, statistical testing, sensory-leakage controls and documentation.
Deeper Insight
The strange gets more interesting when the stories line up. Rice is building the map.
A million documents, from field notes to recordings, sit in Rice’s Center for the Impossible. Its Metadata Project tags accounts across eras and worldviews, giving researchers a way to spot recurring motifs that isolated stories conceal. That could move paranormal claims from cultural curiosities into a larger, sharper investigation.
- The Center says its Metadata Project is structuring, tagging and analyzing thousands of narratives across researchers, eras and worldviews to identify recurring motifs and experiential elements.
- Rice’s collections include decades of correspondence, field notes, scientific reports, interviews, investigative files, audio-visual recordings and cultural artifacts.
- The archive includes firsthand accounts and oral histories alongside physical collections, creating material for comparing testimony with its historical and social context.
