The Story
Stargate documented sessions and mixed results, but its records do not turn McMoneagle’s demonstrations into reproducible proof.
The files show a real government program, real sessions, and some results that users rated as moderately accurate. They do not establish that McMoneagle’s televised demonstrations or personal success stories meet reproducible scientific standards. The program’s own findings emphasized inadequate controls, while later review found no case in which ESP data guided intelligence operations.
- What the records establishGovernment agencies seriously investigated remote viewing and requested more than 200 operational tasks during the period covered by the summary report.
- Where the case stopsThe records describe weak controls, subjective evaluations, and no demonstrated intelligence use sufficient to validate the ability as a reliable tool.
- A Stargate summary reports more than 200 operational tasks, with accuracy scores clustering around moderate ratings and value scores clustering lower, with no top value scores.
- A program findings document says existing research lacked the scientific control needed to demonstrate the phenomenon conclusively.
- The CIA review record states that no ESP case had provided data used to guide intelligence operations.
Deeper Insight
McMoneagle claims remote viewing, seeing distant targets without his senses. Stargate shows TV evidence and official attention aren't proof.
On television, Joseph McMoneagle says he can describe distant targets without using his senses. Declassified Stargate records, a military remote-viewing program, confirm real sessions and some moderately accurate results, but weak controls and no case used in intelligence leave the claim suspended. An archive can look like proof long before it becomes knowledge.
- What it could changeReliable remote viewing would force science and intelligence work to rethink what counts as usable evidence.
- How it touches todayMedia still turns disputed anomalies into performances, where attention can outrun verification.
- Our futureOfficial records could keep making extraordinary claims feel settled while the evidence stays unfinished.
- An archival description identifies 1979 McMoneagle outdoor-target experiments within a collection documenting laboratory research and military applications of remote viewing.
- A review of the Star Gate archives describes a long government-sponsored program spanning remote viewing research and operational memoranda.
- A contemporary critique argues that the official evaluation excluded or mishandled positive findings, showing that the interpretation of the archive itself was contested.
